EPDM Seals

Proper acoustic and heating insulation and functionality of PVC window and door systems is only possible through use of correct seal on the system.

We use EPDM Seal

We as FIRAT use the most natural raw material, Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) for seals on our PVC door and window systems. The reason is that EPDM seal is the single seal that has resistance to sunlight-air oxidation, ozone-induced cracks, shore hardness range of 30-95 at temperatures between +130 C -40 C, having irreversible deformation values for sealing on the system under excessive wind pressure.

Quality and Continuity

Another important aspect of EPDM seals is continuity of quality. Thanks to our supply of invariable raw material, full-automatic production feeding systems, mixtures prepared by computer aid and laboratories for conducting obligatory raw material and product test, FIRAT EPDM seals are always produced in he same quality and standards. We produce all our products containing sulphur and peroxide in accordance with the standards RAL GZ-716 / 1 Ab and TSE -7510. Under these standards, density, hardness, elongation at break and break strength and irreversible deformation of the seal are tested. We vulcanize EPDM seal in two types, namely with sulphur and peroxide. Physical characteristics assured by means of vulcanization system by use of sulphur ensure that much less irreversible deformation is obtained at higher temperatures by vulcanization with peroxide.

Measuring and Controls

Diameter, wall thickness, ovalness and similar production measuring is performed by means of ultrasonic measuring equipment available on the production lines an thus improper production is prevented by activation of audio and illuminated warning system in case of off-standard situations. Additionally, EPDM seal section is continuously magnified 10 times by use of our special projection equipment for performing measuring controls to the accuracy of 0.001. Produced with quality control system at all stages such as raw material, production and packaging in integrated manner together with PVC profiles, the seals are regularly subject to measuring controls and achieved with samples taken from each cartoon.

Package and Packaging

Package label information of EPDM seal package is very important for traceability of the product. All information such as product name, code number, package weight (kg), seal paste information, production date and production shift, etc. are indicated on the package label. Furthermore, we may also incorporate barcode and special information into our labels at request.

Why We use EPDM Seal?

As users of PVC window and door systems are not properly informed about the seal, different seals, namely PVC and thermoplastic elastomer-based ones, are used on the PVC window and door systems in the market in addition to EPDM seal. When exposed to the weathering, PVC and thermoplastic elastomer become fragile after a certain time upon evaporation of PVC softening oil called DOP available in them. With their irreversible deformation value up to 80%, they frequently show insulation problem soon as early as 6 months after insulation the window and door system. As these seals which are made attractive with their different colors and lower prices are preferred by the manufacturers due to their labor and cost advantage, the end users may experience negative results such as low irreversible deformation, not restoring its original shape when crushed and insulation problems.

FIRAT neither produces nor use on the window and door systems any seal other than black EPDM seal. EPDM seals are black in color, with apple smell and covered with silicone. Also used in important sectors such as automotive and aircraft industries, EPDM seals are produced in black and they have no alternatives. Our mission is to ensure our EPDM seals to perform their basic functions and comply with the technical requirements specified in the standards. We always closely monitor customer demands and comments via our dealers and make all our efforts to ensure constant
